‘Laying the Foundations’ is a series of work, combining natural and synthetic materials. Universal shapes support most of our natural and synthetic structures, old and new. Likewise, concrete and plaster have practical associations and functions, as they are directly linked to the construction industry. I am interested in the spatial and formal properties of the materials and the forms of ancient methods of fabrication, and also how these things contribute to and shape our world. In my work, forms are broken up into sections and placed on top of one another. This disrupts the textural components I have used to enhance these coarse materials. Through abstract experimentation, I want to show the connection we, as humans, have with these materials, textures and shapes that surround us.
